I am from Turkey. I have been in Prague more than six months and working in ‘POS Media Europe’ as Business Development Manager. I matched with my company through AIESEC Internship Programme.
After graduation from the university, I decided to head for the future and determined to live the full AIESEC experience. The place of the traineeship was not really in my focus but when I learned that I had matched with Prague, I was really happy. I had tried to visit this beautiful city three times before but couldn’t succeed. After I came to here, I realized that I had been missing many important things in my life.
I was feeling myself in a big, open air museum for the first months because of this fantastic, old and fascinating architecture of Prague. I have a high respect level to the Czech culture and to the current situation of the country. The history of this country and nation is amazing. I am sure that ‘Czech Culture’ will be a really important topic in sociology books in the next fifty years. Because the process which you have been going through for the last fifteen years from Communism to EU-Schengen area will be the best example for the next generations.
It took short time for me to get used to country and to culture but a couple of things interested me at the beginning. Drinking Turecko Kavva everywhere, driving on the same road with the trams, drinking beer because it is cheaper than water, measuring the drink in terms of liter not bottle or glass, remembering all the songs from 80’s, wishing happy name days, enjoying carp for Christmas dinner, people not sitting on the available seats in bus or tram, female hair dressers for men, public transport without graffiti isn’t normal, celebrating eastern by hitting to back of the girls with a special stick.
I am sure that this list will be much longer by the time that I will be living here because you can face with many new experiences and adventures in this beautiful country. We should keep the beauty of the great life in Prague. I hope I will be living and contributing into the unique beauty of Prague in next years of my life.
